Utopias-Ep

I have the pleasure of being able to review Samuel Adams Utopias! Whether you’ve heard about it or not there are a few basic things to consider; 1) It’s almost impossible to get, and 2) if you can get it through retail sources its recommended selling price is $150 a bottle.

Is it really worth it? Take a listen and find out!

Bud Light Golden Wheat Review

Since people are looking for a Bud Light Golden Wheat review, I though I’d give it to them (thanks for the heads up Brando). Below is my review of the beer copied from BeerAdvocate. Take a listen to the podcast.

12 oz bottle poured into an American Tumbler. 09254 (Aug 23rd) Julian Date “Roll gently to mix” on back – due to sediment. SCORE: C

A – It certainly is golden! A bit dark for a wit-style-type-thingie. Golden orange and totally hazed with a fast-forming but fast-leaving white head. Low retention and no lacing left on the glass. 3/5

S – The citrusy orange peel is immediately evident if not a bit too strong. The coriander is there too behind the lopsided orangey-ness of it but is still prominent. The wheat is pushed far back as this beer relies heavily on the orange peel carrying it. Not bad but a bit unbalanced. 2.5/5

T – Thankfully the orange peel isn’t as intense in flavor as it is in aroma. It’s much more balanced with the wheat (and other adjuncts) playing a bigger role and the coriander spicing and orange peel giving mellow attributions. Not bad. 3/5

M – Smooth and soft. Not as thin as one would imagine. It’s got a crisp finish that makes it refreshing too but the spiciness may get a bit cloying if… 3/5

D – …you’re going for drinkability. It’s good (for a Bud Light) but it seems geared towards women (no offense). It’s a bit fruity…in comparison to it’s rival Blue Moon. Not bad overall but the one bottle will be enough for me. Forever. 3.5/5

Pliny the Elder Review

Thank you, thank you, thank you to my beer buddy Todd for this bottle. Pliny the Elder from Russian River Brewing Co. is the 6th highest rated beer in the world. Listen in to see what I think of it (as if you can’t tell by the opening sentence)!

UPDATE: I was mistaken in the podcast when I said the date was the 91st day of 2009. It was actually bottled on September 10th, 2009 making it a pretty dang fresh bottle! Thanks for letting me know Todd!
